The Chords – D Major: the last chord in our basic tour.  All other chords are but deviations or adjustments on these 5 listed here.  The D chord is the high range chord, based on the 3rd, 2nd and 1st strings.

            The basic chord roots in the order laid out previously (C, A, G, E and D) form a pattern with all octaves of one note or key on the fret board.  Knowing the Major scale finger pattern will allow us to manipulate specific scale keys – as long as there is a root note to build from.   The following diagram shows the relationship between the chord and the key roots.
