To understand the way this chart functions, let us look at the far upper left side of the chart at the listed scales.  Listed first in Lydian and then in pentatonic modes.  On the right side we have the fingering pattern mode forms.  Lydian major, minor, pentatonic major then minor as we descend down the chart.  Lydian A major has a 9 in the first column to the right.  Looking up that row we see a 1 at the top.  A major is played on form 1 at fret 9.  Major form 1 is shown to have a C root shape.  This also allows us to play a “bar” chord at this location.  The chord using a C bar would also be A major.
