The Lydian Scale is the most common in usage and is comprised of 8 notes or tones for each major, minor, diminished, chromatic and melodic key on the music scale. This could seem to sound like quite a lot of different sequences to memorize, indeed it is a tall order…but not necessary. It is possible to break all these sequences down into 5 basic patterns or note progression forms. Key determination is in deciphering root notes and root chord shapes. Even easier to break that down to 3 fretted note combinations per string

Lydian Scale Forms |
Notice how neatly the forms overlap each other to form a complete fret
board long pattern of one scale key.
To play any individual form ascending from lowest to highest tone,
starting from string number 6 (furthest on the left in any form # diagram) with
the finger number as labeled. Start
from the top, working down the same string until the 2 or 3 finger pattern is
complete for that string. Then move
to the right one string to number 5 and continue down this string following
finger number and pattern. Continue
until you have completed the pattern for string 1.
To descend the form from highest to lowest tones just reverse the
sequence you have just been explained.
